Adventure Activities - France

France may not be the first thing that comes to mind if you're an adventure traveler. But don't overlook all that this incredible country has to offer you. Year round this area of the world provides adrenaline-pumping adventures for those hardy enough to take them on.

If you're an experienced hiker, try The Grand Traverse of the Alps. While not a
particularly difficult trail, at over 400 miles it will take you 30 days to complete. If you can't commit to a month-long stay, try tackling it in pieces. Unlike many American venues, however, hikers can enjoy accommodations that range from bed and breakfasts to hotels, try purchasing an Interval International timeshare, then you can exchange your suite for others no matter where your trek takes you.
The Pyrenees present an opportunity for some tremendous mountain biking.

With airlines raising costs and if you're more of a casual biker, you may want to consider renting a mountain bike. But be warned, you must book your time on the bike before you arrive, otherwise you may find yourself walking. Accommodations range in price and luxury here as well, from self-serve cottages to hotels or timeshare for rent. Do your research for the best deals and surf adventure traveler websites for reviews by other travelers like you. Motor biking is also an option. You can still have that adrenaline kick without having to worry too much about the effects of altitude. The trails are gorgeous and the terrain is rough. If you plan to do some hiking too you should know that most motorbike routes are well away from hiking areas so as not to disturb the natural sights and sounds that hikers enjoy.

Of course, you can't talk about the French Alps without mentioning the snow! Whether you like to shush down established trails or would rather spend your day glade skiing, this place has it all. The snowboarding is incredible here too. Maybe it's time you took the plunge and went heli skiing. In the past this sport had been prohibitively expensive but today, is quite affordable, especially if you spend your money wisely. Instead of staying in that expensive 5-star hotel, try a self-catering chalet. If you're unsure of where to stay, try a well-known resort like a Hilton Grand Vacations Club. Most suites come with fully applianced kitchens. Cook your own meals and save the expense of restaurant food. Some timeshare for sale and hotels have storage areas for skis and equipment. Be sure to ask before you go.
